HPCA TK-8th Grade Resource Program
the hpca resource program has the privilege of serving our special needs students with learning differences, as well as many english as a second language students. our fifth through eighth-grade students benefit from resource mainly through tutorial sessions, which focus on studying for tests; completing papers and projects; reviewing homework; and offering other needed assistance. in addition, we offer a remedial reading component called hillrap for struggling readers, especially at the elementary level. hillrap is a multisensory, orton-gillingham based reading program, a systematic, time-tested, effective method of reading instruction. all of our resource teachers have received extensive training at the hill center in durham, north carolina, a school that specializes in offering nationally-recognized professional development programs and focuses on working with students who have identified learning differences and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. our hillrap program, very compatible with the elementary reading curriculum, is designed to meet the needs of students who have gaps in their foundational reading strategies. the orton-gillingham, research-based method is structured to build phonological awareness, word attack skills, vocabulary, fluency, and reading comprehension in students with learning differences. we are also proud that we have introduced the ipad version of the hillrap program within the last year.
欧洲杯怎么买球our resource personnel partner with classroom teachers and parents to meet the needs of our students with learning differences. we strive for effective communication with all parties. in addition to the tutoring/remediation services we offer, we help our students to develop organizational skills, study skills, and personal responsibility. we are pleased to have a homework room available on monday, tuesday, and thursday afternoons, in order to have an extra time period during which our students can obtain academic assistance. our resource personnel also provide progress reports to parents on a quarterly basis.
High School Resource Class
students facing academic challenges are given the opportunity to receive additional help, at no extra cost, through a class called study lab. the teacher works with these students individually in small groups to help them in their core classes. they are taught many skills that they will need throughout high school and beyond.
